Doyle Partners, a design studio located in New York City, has arguably one of the most diverse portfolios of our time. Stephen Doyle has been designing since the 1980s and his work has been highly praised for its beautiful solutions and diverse aesthetic palette. This promotional book, completed in Design Entrepreneurship, is a deep dive into their background and their work. The challenge was developing a style and system that fit their personality. Many of their projects are clean and well-thought out, However, Doyle is known for his hand craftiness and love for anything handmade.
For the exterior, I used uncoated orange paper for the front and back covers and left the kettle-stitched spine revealed displaying Doyle’s love for the handmade. I created a custom black slipcase to elevate the book and create a moment of contrast with the orange cover. The interior uses a simple headline-subhead-paragraph format and simple photo treatment that continues throughout the whole book. This gives the reader consistency while giving them the chance to appreciate the studio’s work. I incorporated his famous paper sculptures for the break pages. The final design was a clean interior system that thoughtfully displays their work and values, while the exterior displays the studio’s more crafty, hands-on side.
